Promodbus is a commercial spin-off of the libmodbus project.
The purpose of this edition is to enable professionals to market their products using the Modbus library without the constraints of the LGPL, and to fund the development of the Open Source version called libmodbus.
The license keys correspond to purchases that Stéphane Raimbault or Webstack company can verify through their own application, and then authorize or revoke the license. There is no automatic check of the validity of the licence by the Promodbus runtime. The license keys are just used for administrative tasks such as to facilitate the license renewal. Promodbus is designed to run on secured environment and will never make queries to external licence control services.
The libmodbus code is owned by Stéphane Raimbault and contributions are only accepted under the conditions of the Contributor License Agreement.
"Copyright" also means copyright-like laws that apply to other kinds of works, such as semiconductor masks.
"Derived work" means to copy form or adapt all or part of the work in a fashion requiring copyright permission, other than the making of an exact copy. The resulting work is called a "modified version" of the earlier work or a work "based on" the earlier work.
"The Program" refers to any copyrightable work licensed under this License. Each licensee is addressed as "you".
The licensee is allowed to put one copy of the source code of promodbus into a single pre arranged Vaultinum Software Escrow account by virtue of subcontract held with their client, and will be available to that client in the event the licensee is unable or unwilling to provide support or services to modify that source. In this case promodbus is distributed to the client under the same conditions as the licensee.
